Common dental emergencies

Not sure if it is urgent? Call us and tell us what has happened.

Toothache
Pain that lingers or shoots with hot and cold, often caused by deep decay or an inflamed tooth nerve.
Broken filling
A filling or crown that has broken or come loose.
Damaged tooth
A tooth that has broken off, cracked or been knocked out.
Swelling
Swollen, sore gums, an infection or a wisdom tooth that hurts.

At the visit, the dentist examines the tooth and takes an X-ray if needed. The aim is to relieve the pain and find the cause.

What to do until you come to us

Call 112 or go to an emergency department if the swelling makes it hard to breathe or swallow, if you have a high fever or if you have been seriously injured in an accident. When we are closed you can call 1177, the Swedish healthcare advice line.

  1. Relieve the pain

Cool your cheek from the outside with something cold wrapped in a towel. Over-the-counter painkillers can help. Follow the instructions on the packaging.

  2. If a filling or crown has come loose

Keep the crown or the pieces and bring them with you. Do not try to glue anything back yourself, and chew on the other side.

  3. If a tooth has broken off

Rinse your mouth with lukewarm water and keep the pieces in a little cold water. Call us the same day.

  4. If a tooth has been knocked out

Hold the tooth by the crown, not the root. Put the tooth back in place or place it in milk, and seek dental care immediately.

What does an emergency visit cost?

SEK 550for an emergency examination with a dentist, before the state dental care subsidy

That is the price of the examination according to our price list. A more comprehensive emergency examination costs SEK 995. X-rays and treatment are extra, for example SEK 100 for an X-ray of a single tooth and SEK 580–1,100 for pain treatment.

You will find out what is needed at the visit. We are affiliated with the Swedish Social Insurance Agency (Försäkringskassan), so if you are entitled to the state dental care subsidy (tandvårdsstöd), it is deducted directly.
